Dr Kirsty Hughes

Specialist Clinical Psychologist

I am a Clinical Psychologist working with adults, children, and young people experiencing a range of emotional and mental health difficulties, including anxiety, low mood, and low self-esteem. Through my work, I’ve come to understand that many struggles are rooted in a sense of feeling out of control. My role is to help people regain that control by developing a deeper understanding of themselves, their experiences, and their relationships with others.

My approach is warm, collaborative, and informed by a range of psychological models, with particular experience in trauma-informed and attachment-based therapies. I work alongside people to build self-awareness, resilience, and meaningful, lasting change.

In addition to one-to-one therapy, I offer therapeutic parenting sessions to help parents and carers feel more confident and empowered in their role. I believe behaviour is communication, and rather than focusing solely on what we see, I help families understand the story behind a child’s behaviour. This deeper understanding can strengthen connection, support wellbeing, and create positive, sustained change for both parent and child.

My professional experience spans a variety of NHS mental health services and the third sector.

I am passionate about helping people make sense of why they feel, think, and behave the way they do, creating space for reflection, fresh perspectives, and lasting growth.

I am registered with The Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) (Registration No: PYL15694) and the The British Psychological Society (BPS)
