Private therapy for children & young people.
Helping children feel understood, supported, and ready to thrive.

Specialist therapy for growing minds.
At Oakdale, we understand that children and young people can face social, emotional, behavioural and psychological challenges and that life can often feel overwhelming.
That’s why we provide specialist, evidence based private psychological therapy, delivered in person or online, in a safe, confidential and nurturing environment, helping each child thrive, build resilience and reach their full potential.
Thriving young minds.
Every child’s story is unique. We focus on helping young people understand their thoughts and feelings, learn new ways to cope, and grow stronger through life’s ups and downs.

What we offer.
We provide private therapy and psychological support for a wide range of needs.
Gaming, screens & digital balance.
Technology is a big part of young people's lives, from gaming and social media to learning and friendships. For some, screen time can become overwhelming and start to affect sleep, mood, focus and family life.
At Oakdale, we understand how complex the digital world can feel for young people. We offer specialist support for:
Gaming addiction and screen overuse
Conflict around phones, devices and gaming
Mood and anxiety linked to social media
Setting healthy boundaries at home
Our therapy helps children and families find a healthier balance without shame or blame. We explore what screens mean for each young person and build new patterns that support wellbeing, confidence and real world connection.
Parents receive practical guidance too, helping improve communication, boundaries and harmony at home.

For many families, it can be supportive to include:
Parent and child sessions to build connection, understanding and shared strategies
Regular parent reviews so you can stay informed and involved
Parent only sessions to explore parenting approaches, family dynamics or ways to support your child between sessions
As your child’s needs change, the structure of therapy may change too. We will check in regularly and adapt the approach so your child, and your family, receive the right support at the right time.
How therapy sessions work.
Every child and young person is different, so we shape the therapy process around what will support them best. Some children prefer to attend sessions on their own, while others feel more comfortable with a parent or carer present. We’ll always discuss this with you at the start of therapy so we can agree on what feels right.
Our therapists will work with you to understand what feels safest and most helpful for your child, taking into account their age, needs and preferences.

Private therapy for children FAQs.
Commonly asked questions.
We offer a wide range of evidence-based and creative approaches suited to children and young people, including CBT, play therapy, art therapy, drama therapy, systemic family therapy, and mindfulness-based approaches, matched to each child's needs.
We support children from early childhood through adolescence. For younger children, parents or carers are often involved directly in sessions to help reinforce strategies at home.
All Oakdale therapists are fully qualified, DBS-checked, and experienced working with children and young people. Our Triage Team matches each child with a practitioner whose expertise fits their specific needs.
The first session is a chance to get to know the therapist, talk through reasons for seeking support, and agree what you'd like to achieve. For children, this may include parents or carers to help plan therapy collaboratively.
Generally yes, particularly for younger children where parental involvement helps therapy translate into daily life. For teenagers, Gillick competence may allow more independent decision-making; we can talk you through what this means for your situation.
