Commonly asked questions.

No. Our clinicians are experienced in identifying masking in adults and combine structured assessment tools with observation and collateral information to ensure the process remains accurate.

An Observer is someone who knows you well — a partner, close friend, relative, or colleague — who can describe how you think, communicate, and manage daily life. Their perspective, often gathered via a short questionnaire, helps our clinicians build a fuller picture alongside your own account.

We assess an equal split of male and female clients each year and see first-hand the different ways autism and ADHD can present across sexes. All our clinicians are registered with statutory professional bodies and required to undertake ongoing CPD to stay current with the latest research on presentation differences.

If you'd prefer not to involve a parent or carer, we'll first consider whether you're Gillick competent — meaning you have the maturity to fully understand what the assessment involves. That said, background information about early development, usually from a parent, is often essential to reaching clear conclusions, and if medication is later recommended, parental involvement is normally required.

At your feedback appointment, we'll talk through the findings and what a diagnosis (if given) means for you, and you'll receive a detailed written report with practical recommendations. You'll also have the option to access Oakdale's post-diagnostic support, including coaching and therapy. Though currently this is only offered on a self-funded basis.
