Oakdale is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2040.

Baseline emissions footprint.

Oakdale has had a sustainability plan in place since 2018 and a separate carbon reduction plan since 2021. Our baseline year, the first year we measured our emissions, was 2025.

Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases produced before any reduction strategies were introduced. They are the reference point we measure our progress against.

How we calculated our baseline

We followed Cabinet Office guidance:

  • Define our boundaries
  • Select a base year
  • Identify all sources of emissions
  • Collect data, including from energy bills and suppliers
  • Calculate emissions using the Cabinet Office online calculator, configured to show Scope 1, 2 and 3

Emissions reduction targets.

To continue our progress towards Net Zero, we have adopted a target of reducing carbon emissions to 1.1 tCO2e by 2030. That is a reduction of 50%, with an overall target of reaching carbon neutral no later than 2040.

These targets sit inside NHS England and NHS Scotland's net zero targets: net zero no later than 2040 for emissions within our direct control (Scopes 1 and 2), and no later than 2045 for emissions we can influence (Scope 3 value chain).

We measure our progress annually. The next update is due at the end of 2026.

Carbon reduction initiatives.

The steps we have already taken include:

  • Replacing all appliances and lightbulbs with energy efficient versions, completed over two years
  • Rating all service suppliers and prioritising green providers
  • Incentivising staff to car share and introducing a cycle to work scheme
  • Supporting home and remote working, so staff only travel for meetings and appointments when they need to

Declaration.

This Carbon Reduction Plan has been completed in accordance with PPN 06/21 and associated guidance and reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans.

Emissions have been reported and recorded in accordance with the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and the GHG Reporting Protocol corporate standard and uses the appropriate Government emission conversion factors for greenhouse gas company reporting.

Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions have been reported in accordance with SECR requirements, and the required subset of Scope 3 emissions have been reported in accordance with the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and the Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) Standard.

This Carbon Reduction Plan has been reviewed and signed off by the board of directors (or equivalent management body).
