Dr Helen McLay

Principal Clinical Psychologist

I am an experienced clinical psychologist specialising in eating difficulties and trauma, registered with HCPC. I have over twenty years experience within adult mental health services, specialist eating disorder inpatient and community services and a mix of both NHS and independent sector organisation, since qualifying from the doctorate in Clinical Psychology in 2007.

I have experience in service development, individual and group work, MDT work, teaching, training, supervision and consultation alongside specialist individual and family work. My work is formulation driven, integrative, trauma-informed and always bespoke to client needs. I am committed to recognising the strength of diversity, supporting others to realise and maximise their true potential and personal confidence and changing the way we view, treat and respond to mental illness.

I have completed additional training in Internal Family Systems to include working with addictive processes and eating based difficulties and I’m privileged to bring this unique approach to my clinical work as recognised as a highly effective treatment model in this clinical area. I am also accredited in EMDR, a unique mind body approach to strengthening personal resources and processing stuck trauma, to support clients in their recovery based goals.
